Please, I hope you will take the time to read this whole page, many of your questions will be answered. I wrote as briefly as possible, but, I do want to get my point across “how boxing is for everyone”.
Click on Laurie Schwab video (56 yrs. old) and watch her go to work! In this clip you won’t hardly hear any instruction (my voice), timers or bells going off, I wanted to keep it all Laurie.
The reason for filming Laurie, is, I wanted to show all of you out there, that boxing is for the mainstream, it’s for anyone that wants a good workout, for any age. Irongloves program is adaptable for whatever your reasons are for wanting to box. We hear so many different reasons as to why people want to do it, most simply say, they want a change from their ‘run of the mill’ workout. For our fighters that compete, of course their training is directed towards a different type of goal.
The video is only 6 minutes long, I wanted to show a glimpse of what a training session consist of. Every session, every time you come for your lesson, you will learn something different. Also factored into your boxing lesson will be sport specific exercises, such as, kettlebells, battling ropes, calisthenics, plyometrics, plus, much more hybrid types.
You can’t find this training anywhere else. Because most gyms teach boxing fitness, or they just keep you moving by hitting bags with no guidance or correction. Irongloves will ONLY teach bona fide boxing fundamentals, with strict proper form, moreover with accurate execution. Most boxing clubs will only focus on their fighters, teaching only them the real goods. At Irongloves everyone learns the ‘Art of Boxing’.
THE MOST COMMON QUESTIONS I AM ASKED...
WHAT DO THE ACTUAL LESSONS CONSIST OF? As demonstrated on the video, your session starts off with an intense warmup, then onto boxing training. The training will include a variety of skills, from bag work, mitt work, whatever your coach has planned. Ending with some body movement exercises, abs, and closing with 15 minutes of Post Exercises. Every lesson is different, you will learn new boxing drills each time.
WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE? No experience necessary. Sometimes no experience can be a good thing in boxing, because you don’t come with any bad habits, as in bad footwork or a bad jab. You’ll be able to start off with a clean slate to work with. FYI: Approximately 90% that come to us have no prior boxing experience.
DO I NEED TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE TO BOX? Many of our members have had no formal exercise training, or have desk jobs. It's our job to get you into shape, regardless of your current fitness level.
IS IT JUST FOR GUYS? No way! We have many females with us. Have you seen our Video Clip page? Women often have better hand and eye coordination, consequently advancing quickly, making for excellent boxers.
AM I TOO OLD? Boxing has no age barriers, anyone can learn. Laurie is 56 years old. Irongloves trains everyone like a real boxer. “Train like you are preparing to Fight” at Irongloves.
WILL I GET HIT, DO I HAVE TO SPAR? NO, only if you want to spar and/or eventually compete. The majority of our members box for the fitness aspect. They come to the Irongloves for the boxer's workout and never care to spar. Although, we do have many members that enjoy sparring to test and refine their skills.
WHAT IF I WANT TO SPAR? Sparring is done safely, in a controlled manner, and is supervised by our USA Boxing certified coaches. For sparring we supply all the protective gear, along with special boxing gloves. Several members do spar regularly, to test their skills, and put to use what they've learned thus far. Our competitive fighters spar frequently for preparation.
HOW DIFFICULT CAN BOXING BE? Many NFL players come to Irongloves for the extreme conditioning that boxing does for them. One of the players told me, that he uses Irongloves as a “tool to his means”. Again, just watch Laurie’s video! Plus, go to our Video Clip page and watch a few of the tough training clips.
IT'S MY FIRST TIME IN A BOXING CLUB, WHAT IF I FEEL A BIT INTIMIDATED? Irongloves is truly the best atmosphere you could imagine, a very upbeat, non- threatening enviroment. People from all walks of life work out with us. You'll be training along side the likes of maybe a physician, grocery clerk, pilot, hairdresser, accountant, police officer, mechanic, and college students, as well as professional and amateur fighters training for competition. Everyone is made to feel welcome. Like Renene tells people on the phone, "when you walk into our place, it will feel like yours".
Thank you - Joe Leinhauser
